PacWest Motocross Series Partners with Tom Shields of RRYD

Bremerton, WA. (September 3, 2019) – Pacific West Promoters Group (PWPG, LLC) has reached an agreement with Tom Shields of Riding Racing Youth Development, LLC (RRYD), promoter of the Ryan Villopoto Amateur Motocross Cup (RV Cup) to take the reins as Director of Marketing for the PacWest Motocross Series. The PacWest Series is an 8-round series that visits tracks in the state of Washington and Oregon, offering riders different soil and layouts from five different facilities.

Starting in 2017, the PacWest Series was revived by PWPG to bring as many tracks in the Pacific Northwest into the series and offer riders a clear choice of being reengaged with their local dealer. “For myself, Brent (Davis) and Brian Nilsen, we have laid the foundation for bringing back the PacWest Series,” said Ryan Villopoto 10-time AMA and FIM World Champion. “Tom and I have worked together over the last couple years to get the RV Cup off the ground and that has brought us to today. The vast knowledge and experience that Tom brings will help elevate the PacWest Series for all involved.”

Tom Shields comes from an array of racing which includes 20 plus years of amateur and, professional flat track and road racing. After a brief pro road racing career that included a national win at Daytona, he entered the world of organizing racing in 1999 with WERA as an affiliate in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. In 2000, Freestone Raceway opened, and Tom was there the entire way until 2005 when he was contracted to take on the day-to-day promotions and logistics for the track and its events. Tom Shields help build the largest AMA series in the United States, the AMA Texas Winter Series along with logistics of the Texas pro-national round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series from ‘07-‘12, and the creation of the James Stewart Spring Championship in 2011.

“RRYD and Tom Shields showed us a level of professionalism with the RV Cup that we desire for the PacWest riders and sponsors” Brian Nilsen of Brothers Powersports. “After seeing the positive response, the RV Cup received, it was only natural for us to want the same for PacWest. He’s all about the riders and their families and we like that.”

Brent Davis, Managing Partner of Gray Harbor ORV Park said “we spoke to Tom Shields about doing something this time last year and I think we are taking the next natural step for our riders. We knew about what he had accomplished in Texas for Freestone Raceway and James Stewart and now our riders have seen it. RRYD will help bring the care and attention for our racers, their families, and sponsors that we want.”

“I’m honored that RV, Brent, and Brian asked me to help them with the PacWest Series,” said Tom Shields of RRYD. “I like to think that I help create memories. Some of the fondest times any of us ever have are with our friends and families at a racetrack. It’s those times now that I enjoy recreating for today’s riders.”

Over the next several weeks and months, RRYD will be working to provide the rider’s information for the 2020 PacWest Series along with next year’s Ryan Villopoto Amateur Motocross Cup at Gray Harbor ORV Park.
